Does this sound like you

Your English is good. Your mark is not.

You stop when you have to speak

Maybe you read and write in English every day. Maybe you don't. But when you have to speak, your brain stops. You translate every word in your head first, and then the panic arrives before the sentence does.

You have been at B2 for years

You got your B2 a long time ago. You still get the same score in practice tests that you got two years ago, and you don't know why you stopped moving.

You don't know where to start

You have books, PDFs and free videos. You open them, you feel behind, and you close them again. Nobody has told you what to do first, or what to do next.

Nobody tells you why it is wrong

You see the right answer, but never the reason. So you make the same mistake next month, and the month after that, and your score stays where it is.

What this can cost you

What happens if you don't pass in the next 12 months?

The 6-Month C1 System

Find the problem first. Then fix it, in order.

Most C1 courses give you a library and wish you luck. Here, before you study anything, we find out where you are losing marks. Then you get a plan with a date, and one priority at a time, so on a bad day you still know what to do.

01

Find your real level

You do one full practice test. Not in three weeks, now. Then we both know which paper is taking your marks, and you can stop guessing.

Your starting point, paper by paperExample

180Reading
168Use of English
188Writing
176Listening
190Speaking

Same student, same day. Writing and Speaking are already above C1. Use of English and Listening are not. Without this picture she would study everything, and everything is the slowest way.

02

Make your six-month plan

Your test results become a plan with a date. One priority at a time, built around the hours you really have, not the hours you wish you had.

03

The goal is 70%

Trying to get 100% is how people spend a year studying and never speak. Aim for 70% and use the language now.

04

Be a detective

Every mark and every mistake goes in your error log. Then you study what the log tells you to study, not what you feel like studying. Your weak points get smaller because you can see them.

05

Learn how to play the exam game

How each paper is marked, how to use your time, and what to do when a question is hard. This is how a good level turns into a good mark.

Issy, founder of English with Issy
Meet Issy

I know what it feels like to have a language stuck inside your head

I moved to Spain with a degree in Spanish and Portuguese from one of the best universities in the country, and I still didn't feel confident when I opened my mouth. There were four different days in those first months when I came home and cried after meeting new people, because a whole evening in Spanish left me overwhelmed and frustrated. People asked my friends if I was mute.

The degree didn't make me ready. Living it did.

I am so glad I trusted my instincts, ignored my fears and moved anyway. Eight years of living in Spain later, I have a level of Spanish that I am so fu**ing proud of. Not because I am talented, and not quickly. I kept going when it was hard, and I kept going on the days when I didn't want to.

Six and a half years ago I was teaching from the floor of my bedroom, after I lost my job at the start of the pandemic. Ten years and around 4,000 students later, everything I learned about why good English still gives a low mark is inside this programme.

Where you are today is temporary. Keep taking small steps and you will get there.

Questions people ask

Who is this for?
Adults at a good B2 level or above who are preparing for Cambridge C1 Advanced and need it for a real reason: a job, a visa, a promotion, a place at university. It works for people who have stopped moving and want a plan. It is not for anyone below B2, and it is not for anyone who wants to pass in six weeks.
My level might not be good enough. Should I still apply?
Yes. Most people who say this are further along than they think, and many are already at a high B2 without knowing it. On the call I tell you honestly where you are. If you are not ready, I say so, and I tell you what to do instead.
How much time do I need every week?
3 to 5 hours is enough to move forward. The plan is built around the time you really have, and the priorities are set by month, not by week, because life changes. In a busy week you do the first thing on the list.
How is this different from a course I have already bought?
Two things. It starts by finding out where you lose marks, instead of giving you a library. And your work is corrected by people who mark the real exam, instead of by you.
Can you promise I will pass?
No, and be careful with anyone who says they can. What I can tell you is that six months is enough for someone at a high B2 or a low C1 who does the work, and that I only accept people when I believe the programme will take them there.
Why do the Accelerator and VIP need an application?
Because we both need to be honest with each other. If the course is not right for you, you lose money. And if you are not right for the course, the other students are affected. The call is 15 minutes and it costs you nothing.
What does it cost, and can I pay monthly?
Self-Study is €500, one payment, and you can start today. The price of the Accelerator and VIP depends on your level, your exam date and how much support you need, so we look at it together on the call. There are payment plans for both.
How long do I have access?
Self-Study: 12 months access to the course, and 6 months access to the practice test platform. Accelerator and VIP: 6 months of live classes and community, 12 months access to the course, and 6 months access to the practice test platform.
How do I start?
For the Accelerator or VIP, fill in the short application and book your call. If you would rather start on your own today, Self-Study gives you access straight away and you can move up later.
